Through the INNO4CFIs Accelerator Program, Impact Hub Athens works closely with early-stage climate innovators to help them grow their ideas into viable, scalable solutions. Our role focuses on providing hands-on entrepreneurial support: mentoring, business and financial model development, community building, access to experts, and visibility across European innovation networks.

Projects like Seagrass Blue benefit from a combination of tailored guidance, strategic coaching, and real-world testing opportunities, all essential for turning pioneering ideas into operational, investment-ready ventures.

By supporting teams developing solutions in blue carbon, circularity, biodiversity, and climate resilience, Impact Hub Athens helps bridge the gap between innovation and implementation. This collaborative framework brings scientists, entrepreneurs, and ecosystem partners together to accelerate technologies that can deliver measurable environmental impact.

Seagrass meadows are among the most efficient natural carbon sinks on the planet, capturing up to 30 times more carbon than tropical rainforests per hectare (WWF). Yet these ecosystems are disappearing. The Mediterranean alone has lost 29% of its known seagrass since 1879 (PNAS).

To tackle this challenge, Seagrass Blue has engineered the first floating seagrass farm in the Mediterranean. The project restores marine ecosystems and creates a replicable model for measurable blue carbon impact. The latest video shows young meadows thriving on modular floating pods, offering a first look into this innovative approach.

These pods act as offshore nurseries, keeping seagrass safe from coastal threats. Each is fitted with trays for young plants, underwater cameras, and environmental sensors that track growth and monitor environmental conditions.

“We designed each pod to function as both a habitat and a data hub,” shares Chris Lewis, cofounder of Seagrass Blue. The system is modular and scalable and, “right now, we’re focused on getting those first 10 hectares in the water. The goal is to create a replicable model for marine carbon removal,” adds Chris.

“The program has helped us refine our business strategy and has given us the tools needed to shape our next phase of growth. The experts are professional and enjoyable to work with, providing a good balance between theory and case studies. Going forward, we’re excited about the tailored guidance we have been offered, and the opportunity to build relationships with the other startups working toward similar goals.”
