Applications for this year’s European Social Innovation Competition have now closed with the final number reaching 788 entries. We’d like to thank everyone who has sent through their great ideas to reboot equality!
We were especially excited to see social innovation from all corners of Europe, with applications submitted from 40 European Member States and H2020 affiliates including Georgia, Armenia and Switzerland! This year Italy and the UK topped the rankings (87 and 86 applications respectively, but since we’ve made new H2020 countries eligible, we were thrilled to see applications from Tunisia, Georgia, Armenia and Switzerland as well. Greece ranked 3rd with 82 applications, which is the same number of applications submitted from Spanish applicants to the competition.
The 30 best ideas supporting people across Europe to benefit from technological change, will be announced as semi-finalists in early June. These semi-finalists will then receive mentoring support to progress their ideas and will be invited to take part in our Social Innovation Academy in Madrid in July.
Later in the year, three prizes of €50,000 each will be awarded in Brussels to the 2017 winners. We’re wishing everyone the best of luck!
